Canary Island ecosystems are particularly rich in biodiversity, unique and genuine, but the human population density is also high and, as a result of that, the impact on ecosystems are serious. Some of them are responsible of the major extinctions experienced historically in the archipelago

The response of human society the these impacts has been to declare protected areas and adopting management actions for the more endangered species. These areas and these species are the main priorities in nature conservation in Canary Islands
